A slot uses a random number generator (RNG) that settles the result of each spin at the moment you press the button. Blackjack is different, because your decisions change the outcome. You try to beat the dealer by finishing closer to 21 without going over. Basic strategy, a chart of the mathematically best play for every hand against every dealer upcard, cuts the house edge a long way, but it never removes it.
